“NO, NO, NANETTE.”
BOX PLAN OPENS TO-MORROW.
Nobody should miss seeing the happy and tuneful musical comedy, “No, No, Nanette,” which is to be staged by the New Plymouth Amateur Operatic Society for four nights commencing on Monday next. The story has been cleverly conceived and the lines are strikingly humorous and appropriate. When Jimmy Smith (Mr. J. D. Quirk) falls for the tales of woe three pretty maidens tell him and when he falls for the gay. hearted Nanette tSydney Joll) and from nothing but the kindness of his heart decides that she should have a glorious holiday beside the sea, he creates for himself and his lawyer, Billy Early (Mr. H. St. Leger Reeves), a heap of trouble. The wives of two, Sue Smith (Ruth Gentles) and Lucille (Gwenyth Greenwood), believe the worst and the two male conspirators, who know full well that the real truth will never be believed, find themselves in tangle after tangle. It might not be so bad, perhaps, did their escapades affect only themselves, but what they plan has a devastating effect on everybody round them. Pauline (Joan Wilson), the cook at the Smiths, needs only to hear mention of the sea and she starts moving her arms in readiness to swim. She, too, is wafted off to Jimmy Smith’s cottage by the sea and that means just another mouth which must, of necessity, be made to close and keep closed. When Betty from Blackpool (Dulcie Pearce), Winnie from Wigan (Nonnie Griffiths) and Flora from Flamborough (Betty List) arrive at the cottage there is a merry mix-up. Popular prices of admission will be charged and the plan will open at Collier’s to-mor-row, Thursday. There is no extra charge to reserve.
