NEW HALL ON NORFOLK RD
MEETING DECIDES TO BUILD. A general meeting of those interested in the Norfolk hall was held on Thursday night. The committee reported on a meeting held at the home .of Mrs. Davis when questions of finance were discussed. ' The meeting decided to build a hall ! after the money required had been ■ raised. ’ The site will be part of the school grounds, subject to the approval of the education board's architect. ' It was decided to hold a mart at Ingle-, wood some time in December. Mr. Marshall gave a fat lamb for a competition. ■ A queen carnival will be started in March and a canvass of the district will be made. Canvassers appointed were: 1 Mr. Byrne (Rugby), Mr. and Mrs. B. 1 Dombroski (Upper Norfolk), Misses Laurence (Mountain Road), Mesdames Ryan and Mantey (Lower Norfolk), and Mrs. W. A. Brown (Durham). Each canvasser will be responsible for an area subcommittee. / Messrs. W. Byrne, C. Comey and H. West (treasurer) were appointed trustees GENERAL items. Local Preacher Received. Services at the Stratford Methodist Church yesterday were of a special character. At the morning service Mr. C. H. Skuse was officially received as a local preacher and in the evening a solo, duet and anthem were sung. The subject, specially related to Labour Day, was on real arwj false ideas of progress. Presbyterian Mission. The mission which has been conducted at St. Andrew’s Church, Stratford, for the past two weeks concluded yesterday, when the missioner, Mr. John P. Miller, spoke on “Pearls of the Victorious Life” and “The Greatest Thief in Stratford.” ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS. ( Electors in the Stratford electorate are notified that the National Government candidate, Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., will address meetings at Ngaere to-night, Pukengahu to-morrow night, Croydon Road on Wednesday, Kaimata on Thursday and Yorke Road on Friday, all at 8 p.m. Mr. C. R. Finnerty, Democrat candidate in the Stratford electorate, will address electors at Whangamomona tonight at 8 o’clock. A dance will be held at the Windsor Tea Rooms, Stratford, to-night. It will be part of the campaign for the business queen. Good supper and music and a well balanced selection of dances will be features. Mr.- Alan Clarke, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Clarke, Pembroke Road, Strata ford, was appointed to H.M.S. Diomedi before the warship’s departure from Auckland. Sympathy with Mr. W. Jackson, Te Popo, because of the death of his father was expressed at a meeting of the Te Popo school committee. Motor Car Overturns. While motoring to Masterton on Friday Miss Pixie Nowell, Ngaere, met with an ' accident, near Masterton, her car running off the road and overturning. The vehicle was badly damaged but the occupants were uninjured.
