TWO PIGS SECURED BY HUNTERS.
Pig huntirig excursions in the northern backblock districts of Taranaki were made by officers and men of the H.M.S, Wellington yesterday. Two pigs were secured and brought back to the sloop. The officers’ party, organised by Messrs. W. H. Quickfall and J. A. Pigott, consisted of Commander Hall, Mrs. Hall, Lieut.-Commander B. Alers Hankey, ieut. M. E. Butler-Bowden, Sub-Lieut. Vincent Jones and Warrant-Engineer E. W. Cole. Although the party climbed much steep country no sign of a pig was found until after noon when a boar was discovered. A vigorous chase resulted in the killing of the boar. The party of men organised by Mr. L. Smith also killed one pig. Mount Egmont was climbed by Lieut.Commander Hankey and Lieut. ButlerBowden on Saturday. Accompanied by a guide they left the North Egmont hostel at 11.30 a.m. and an hour later arrived at Tahurangi Hut. The hut was left ten minutes later and the summit reached at 2.40 p.m. The snow was soft all the way and the time taken to make the ascent was good under such conditions. Commander Hall and Mrs. Hall visited the hostel on Saturday.
