DETECTIVE TRAINING

NEW ZEALAND’S OPPORTUNITY. COURSE AT SCOTLAND YARD. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Two New Zealand detectives will sail for London in about eight weeks’ time for special training at New Scotland Yard. They will be followed each year by a similar number of detectives from the Dominion police force, all to undergo instruction in criminal investigation at the London Metropolitan Police College and in practical detective duties at New Scotland Yard. _ . This arrangement the Mmister in charge of the Police Department, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, said to-day was recently completed between the Commissioner of Police of the metropolis and the Dominion Commissioner of Police, Mr. W. G. Wohlmann. “It is a very satisfactory arrangement, the usefulness of which will appeal alike to the public and to the police force, said Mr. Cobbe, “It is a concession granted to our detective force by New Scotland Yard which Mr. Wohlmann has been long aiming to secure. It will help some of our men to finish off their training in the world-renowned centre of police activities.” . ■ The Minister anticipated that the benefits to the New Zealand police force would more than justify the cost. The detectives from New Zealand selected for training would be required to bring back full details of the instruction given them, their experiences and training for the information of the department. Arrangements were now in hand for the selection of two detectives to leave the Dominion for London in eight weeks.
