From 29 applicants Mr. D. L. Crooks, present clerk of the Weber County Council, has been appointed clerk of the Dannevirke County Council, reports the Press Association.

Mr. P. Smith, Okato, has been appointed manager of the Waitoitot Damy Company and will take up his cities on September 20. He was_ chosen from 51 applicants for the position. The death occurred suddenly yesterday of Mr. William Low, a well known Dunedin dentist, reports the Press Association. He was a son of the late Mr. Lo Keong, at one time a prominent figure in the business life of the city. Mr. Low is survived by a widow. Mr. G. H. Bell, Oakura, will leave early next week for Hamilton, where he will be one of the judges; at the National Dairy Show and sale. Mr. Bell has been invited to judge the Jersey section at both the Christchurch and Nelson shows to be held in November.

Mr. G- W. Luke, whose death occurred this week at Frankton Junction, wag a member of a well known North Taianaki family. He was born at Waiongopa 59 years ago, the eldest son of the late Mr. W. Luke, and spent his school days there. Later he took a farm at Matau but about 30 years ago he removed to the Taumarunui district but some years ago retired to Auckland, where he had resided since. Mr. Luke, who never married, is survived by his mother, Mrs. E. Luke, Vogeltown, and three brothers, Messrs. C. L. (Te Puke), H. C. (Morrinsville) and A. L. Luke (Whakatane). There was a representative attendance at the funeral at Lepperton yesterday. The service in the Anglican church and at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Bianchi, vicar of Waitara. The bearers were Messrs. A. Roberts, E. Hellier, F, T. Crowe, A. Wright, W. Cartwright and F. Copestake.
