ANTARCTIC GALES
SOURCE OF POWER IN FUTURE. BRITISH ASSOCIATION MEETS. By Telegraph—'Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 10.30 p.m. London, Sept 4. Professor E. Debenham, in his presidential address to-day to the geographic section of the British Association conference, said the polar regions might be a future source of power. The persistence, strength and frequency of Antarctic buzzards offered stupendous energy which was inexhaustible unlike coal and other sources of power. The future would probably see giant windmills in Antarctica producing power which would be wirelessed throughout the southern hemisphere. Professor Debenham drew attention to the northward trend of cruising and suggested that holiday resorts might be established at Pittsbergen and other Arctic lands. Medical research should be financed by Rockefeller and similawfoundations to determine the value of residence in Polar regions in the treatment of pulmonary and other diseases. Professor Myers attributed the increase of road accidents to the psychological condition of “accident proneness. He advocated special tests to determine the nervous reaction of all road users.
