NELSON’S AIRPORT
DISCUSSION OF FORMALITIES. HARBOUR BOARD IN CONTROL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 3. Formalities necessary for the development of the Nelson airport were discussed to-day with the Minister of Defence and Public Works and Treasury officials by Mr. A. Gould, chairman of the Nelson Harbour Board, which is the aviation authority, and Mr. W. C. Harley, a member of the board. The area concerned is 158 acres a short distance out of Nelson.
The discussions were private, but Mr. Gould explained later that the board held an option on the block expiring early next month, and it was not anticipated that a complete report of the aviation authorities and the Public Works engineers would be ready for two months. In view of this the Minister of Public Works had promised that facilities would be given to the board for acquiring the land when the report was ready on condition that the Loans Board approved of the Harbour Board’s proposed plan for raising the finance.
