CLAIM AGAINST BANK

ACTION BY MR. W. D. LYSNAR. LARGE SUM INVOLVED IN- CASE. \ By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. Litigation involving a dispute between William Douglas Lysnar, station owner and former member of Parliament, and the National Bank of New Zealand, which last year was the subject of a successful Privy Council appeal by Lysnar, was again before the Supreme Court to-day when a special session opened before Mr. Justice Blair to hear claims by Lysnar for damages allegedly sustained as the result of the bank not fulfilling a contract entered into between the parties. The case will be continued. The claim centres around the Arowhana Station, of which Lysnar is the owner, and the bank’s advances in connection with the running of the property. Lysnar’s claim runs into large figures, which are not precisely stated, and the bank contends that these are offset by Lysnar’s indebtedness to the bank, which it alleges is greater than the amount he is entitled to claim. • Mr. A. H. Johnstone, K.C., is appearing for the bank and Mr. H. F. O’Leary, K.C., for Lysnar. Most of the hearing to-day was occupied with the address by Mr. O’Leary on behalf of Lysnar. Evidence was given by one witness regarding the value _of the property and stock within the period of the last four years.
