Not the Butcher.
To telephone the butcher, as she thought, and to be offered “cops” was the rather alarming experience of a New Plymouth resident on Saturday morning. She rang the number of the butcher with whom she deals, which somewhat resembles that of the fire station. “Will you send six chops to Mrs. ?” she asked as soon as she received a reply. “What!” ejaculated a voice sharply. Then doubts assailed the householder, and she asked if the butcher was speaking. “No,” was the disconcerting reply, “it’s the fire station. I nearly put you on to the police station. I thought you asked for six ‘cops.’ ”
