Mr. R. C. Rea, New Plymouth, has been successful in section B of the examination for Civil engineers- held last June. Mr. R. J. Grant, manager of the Union Bank at New Plymouth, was welcomed on Friday night as a new member of the Taranaki Club. The Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, who has been presiding over the August sessions of the Supreme Court at New Plymouth, left for Wanganui on Saturn day afternoon. The resignation of Mr. R. L. Lowe, who is going to Feilding, was accepted with regret by the North Taranaki Primary Schools Football Association at a meeting in the week-end, and it was decided to forward a letter of appreciation. Mr. Lowe, who. was formerly bandmaster df the New Plymouth Municipal Band, and who has recently been hi charge of the Stratford Band, is to take a similar. position at Feilding. Mr. G. E. Cartwright, manager of the National Bank of New Zealand at New Plymouth, left yesterday for Wellington, where he has been appointed manager of the Te Aro branch. On Friday night he was given a farewell at the Taranaki Club. Mr. F. S. Johns, acting president, Mr. S. F. Burgess, vice-president, and Mr. E. Shaw referred to Mr. Cartwright’s popularity and congratulated him on his promotion. The death of Mr. Seymour Tyrrell last week at the age of 86 years removed one of the personalities of cricket at New Plymouth. Mr. Tyrrell was regular in his attendance at Pukekura Park and followed closely the finer points of the game. From his home in Morley Street he used to walk to the park to see the matches and often was a terrace spectator of net practices.
