RUGBY EXPERIMENTS
TRIAL TEAMS SELECTED L. EDWARDS FIRST FIVE-EIGHTH. OLD SCRUM FORMATION ADOPTED. NEW PLAYERS TO BE GIVEN TRIAL. Several surprises and a spirit of experimentation are evident in the tearns for the Taranaki A versus B Rugby trial at Stratford on August 31, announced by the selection committee last night. A 3-3-2 scrum formation has been adopted, there are several players included in the 38 chosen who have not played representative football this season, and L. Edwards, till now a three-quarter in the A team, has been brought to first fiveeighth. The name of only one player who would have had a place is omitted from the selection, that of C. Brown (Tukapa), who is suffering from a poisoned leg. The A team backs are considerably altered from the team that played Manawatu. Instead of A. Pepperell and Edwards the wingers are Ford and G. Sullivan. Edwards has replaced G. Sangster as first five-eighth and Boswell reappears at half in place of C. Sangster. In the rearranged scrum Gargan has replaced Fowler as one of the two hookers, and G. Harrison is a breakaway. The B team has Richards as full-back and Rowlands, the Patea and eX-High School winger, is to make his first appearance. F. Young, who played as three-quarter three years ago, is second five-eighth and G. Sangster is being given a further trial outside Gudgeon. W. Ruakere is a new player for trial football, and A. Kofoed, the young Stratford Old Boys forward, is being given a trial. . . Young players previously untried form the majority of the emergencies. The teams are:— A. TEAM. Full-back: A.
