EIGHTY DEAD FOUND

Eighty bodies have been recovered in the Ovada district following the bursting of the dam at Ortecella. Difficulty in estimating the total casualties arises from the dispersal of the population. Many thought to be dead were found to be alive long distances away. For instance, a man thrown into the water reached a floating table on which he travelled for many hours until rescued miles from his own village. Railway and telephonic communicatioris have been restored. Soldiers have bridged the Orba arid other rivers.
