STRATFORD BIRD SHOW

ENTRIES NEARLY DOUBLE

HIGH STANDARD OF QUALITY. BEAL CUP TO HAMILTON MAN. Entries for the Stratford Canary and Cage Bird Club’s annual show, which opened yesterday, are nearly double those of last year and difficulty has been experienced in accommodating them. Over 300 entries have been received, many from outside districts such as Auckland, Hamilton and. Palmerston North, and the result is a remarkable display of practically every species of cage bird. Quality has accompanied quantity, and the judges were all very much impressed with the exhibits. In fact they considered the show the equal of anything in the North Island. The entries have been splendidly arranged in Orr’s buildings, Central Broadway, and yesterday afternoon the building was crowded almost all the time. The show will be open again to-day and this evening. The judges were Mrs. L. E. Collins, New Plymouth (foreign birds and budgerigars), Mr. Geo. Fleming, New Plymouth (Yorkshire and Norwich canaries) and Mr. R. Rae (British birds). The committee controlling the show comprised: President, Mr. H. Dixon; canary stewards, Messrs. H. Dixon and L. Bond; burgerigar and foreign birds stewards, Messrs. W. J. Davis and A. E. Pollock; British birds steward, Mr. T. Long; secretary, Mr. A. G. Beal; show manager, Mr. E. R. L.
