BRIGADE’S FINE WORK

NEW PLYMOUTH FIRE CHECKED. DAMAGE BY SMOKE AND WATER. The New Plymouth Fire Brigade effected a smart save early yesterday morning when fire broke out in a Standish Hill house owned by Mr. J. Moorby and occupied by Mr. M. E. Gordon. Despite the fact that the brigade had to run out over 200 feet of hose and the fire had a good grip when the alarm was given, the blaze was confined to one room in which was stored a large quantity of merchandise. Mr. Gordon was awakened by smoke and had to go to the nearest alarm box on the Wallace Place comer communicate with the brigade as the telephone was housed in the room which was the seat of the fire.

The building, the contents of which were damaged by smoke and wateri was saved aftei* a strenuous half-hour fight.
