Mr. D. J. Malone, president of the Stratford Racing Club, at the annual meeting last night. * . The li per cent, rebate on the first £20,000 put through the totalisator should be' increased to 2J 'per cent. Country clubs generally were suffering from lack of funds. In Stratford’s case, for instance, the club wanted to spend £5OOO on improvements .but had to spread its programme over a period. Moreover, the owner, who was the backbone of racing, badly needed assistance,- At one time a concession was given on rail transport of horses and he though? the concession should be reinstituted, A similar concession assisted breeders showing: at A. and "P. shows; surely it could be extended to the horse owner who was responsible for so much going into the Treasury funds. MrJ S. Pitt mentioned that attendants travelling" in horse boxes were charged the same fare as if they travelled in a carriage.
