INQUIRY FOR BUTTER
PRICES MAINTAIN SAME LEVEL. CHEESE QUOTATIONS LOWER. ' • There has been more inquiry for New Zealand butter on the London markets this week although prices are on a par with late rates. Cheese has fallen by sixpence and is still quiet. In spite of a firmer market English 'buyers’ are apparently not interested in forward business, though there was one sale of a fairly large quantity of Central Taranaki butter, August make finest, at 10%d (92s to 935). There have been no inquiries for cheese. A London United Press cable reports the butter market is firm and more active and the cheese market is quiet. Prices for butter are 89s to 90s and 44s for cheese. Similar advice has been received from the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Ltd. and from Messrs. A. J. Mills and Company Ltd. through Mr. E. Griffiths. Other quotations are:— Butter: Danish, 102 s; Australian, 86s to 87s; unsalteds, New Zealand, 94s to 96e; Australian, 88s. Cheese: Australian, both, 41s to 425; exceptional, 42s 6d; Canadian, white, 60s to 625; Canadian, coloured, 58s to 60s.
