Some people do not mind having their annual leave this time of the year as winter sports have a large following and it is most enjoyable to have a week or two free for golf or any other sport which you may like I have just spent a pleasant week out of town, and of course before lea/ing home I had a busy time shopping. The sales in New Plymouth are in full swing, so you may imgaine I picked up quite a number of real bargains.

There is quite a spell of cold weather ahead of us yet, so I called first at White’s in order to see some woollen suits they are displaying. These are in the newest styles, buttoning right to the neck, and are in a good range of colours. Whilst in the showroom I purchased a short jacket of suedette, having a zipp fastening which can be done right up to the neck, and pocketed and belted. To go with it I selected a skirt of tweed in the latest checks and a smart blouse. White’s have a wonderful selection of shirts and blouses which have been greatly reduced in price for the sale.

Being a very keen reader, I took care to take a good supply of reading matter and to that end called at Corrigall’s Book Store. A large selection of the latest books by well known authors awaited my inspection, and after a lot of deliberation I chose, “The King’s Grace,” by John Buchan, “Blood Relations,” by Philip Gibbs and “The End of the Chapter,” by, John Galsworthy. To this I added a good number of magazines and periodicals, iof. which Corrigall’s have always a great collection. Oh, yes! Someone at home would be sure to want. a letter, so I must have some good stationery and ’this was soon .bought from the superior quality fine range of paper which was shown- me. An inspection of Corrigall’s goods will reveal that their prices cannot be; beaten anywhere.
