Miss M. Washer returned from Cambridge at the week-end. Mrs. J. H. Fletcher entertained a number of guests at tea last week. Mrs. M. R. Jones has returned from Te Kuiti.

The following party of delegates from Dr. M. Champtaloup is visiting Hawera.

Mrs. Shannon and Miss N. Shannon returned early in the week from a fortnight’s holiday at Auckland.

Mrs. A. J. Corrigan returned from the Bay of Plenty on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Gill, Whangamomona, and Mrs. Blight, Inglewood, were visitors to Hawera for the Gill—Pierce wedding yesterday.

' Mrs. Stone-Wigg, Winchester, Christchurch, arrived early in the week and will be the guest of her mother, Mrs. S. B. Howlett, for a few weeks. Mrs. J. P. McQuiltin, Ashburton, arrived last week-end and is Mrs. Bernard McCarthy’s guest.

Miss Mary Carbis, who has passed her midwifery examination at Invercargill, received her training at the Hawera hospital and has now completely qualified. She is visiting her parents at Awatuna. Miss J. Wealleans, Feilding, who has been staying with Miss J. Dudding, leaves to-day to spend a few days with friends at Wanganui before returning to her home.

Mesdames Drew, P. O. Veale, G. B. Mann, W. A. Fendall, R. H. Leece and W. W. Thomas and Miss M. Adamson were Mrs. W. W. Gibson's guests at tea on Friday afternoon. Miss Grace Avery, New Plymouth, was the guest of Miss Irene O’Sullivan, Matapu, for the Waverley Hunt Club’s ball last night, and will be staying the week-end.

When Mrs. W. M. Egglestone was hostess at tea on Wednesday afternoon She wore a black marocain afternoon frock, with touches of silver lame, to . receive her guests, among whom were Mesdames H. G. Whitehead, W. W. Gibson, L. A. Ablett, J. B. Rowe, J. Thomson, A. F. Excell, Irvine, T. J. Salmon, Coull (Blenheim), S. A. Chisholm'and Miss M. Salmon. Bowls of daphne and violets lent a fragrance to the room, and during the afternoon, Mrs. W. W. Gibson and the hostess, delighted those present by singing several songs. the Hawera district leave on Monday to attend the Dominion conference of Women’s ' Institute representatives at Auckland: Mrs. McAsey, Te Roti (representing the Tarahaki Federation), Mesdames Fowler (Te Roti), Carey (Patea), F. C. 'King iTuritown), Beauchamp (Turuturu), Guvnor (Taiporohenui), Good (Okaiawa), S. G. Larcom (Whareroa) and Miss .J. Easton (Tawhiti). Mrs. Patterson, Tawhiti, is accompanying the party to the conference, but not as a delegate.

Deep rose coloured camellias set in. a beaten brass trough across the mantel, and a tall window vase made effective decorations in Mrs. H. H. Bramwell’s lounge on Wednesday when she entertained a number of friends at tea.-The hostess wore a smart chocolate brown chiffon velvet frock, self-covered buttons trimming the raglan-sleeve set, and a gold ornamental clip holding in place the cowl-front. Mrs. W. Pollock was hostess at a jolly games party at “Jerseyvale” on Tuesday evening for Miss Phyllis Pierce, who is to be married shortly. The guests each brought a-useful article for the kitchen, and during the evening Mr. W. S. Pollock asked Miss Pierce to accent the large collection of gifts with the best wishes of all present. Miss Pierce was also presented with a dainty posy of violets, daphne and fern. Competitions were won by Misses L. A. Campbell and Jean Easto - and Mr. V. Gerrand. Mrs. Pollock wore a neatly cut gcftvn of deep wine silk marocain, her daughter’s frock being fashioned of geranium red phantom crepe. Miss Pierce chose' a pretty frock of pale blue georgette. A pleasant hour or two was spent at the Rewa bn Wednesday afternoori when a party of old friends of the Pierce family met at afternoon tea to hpnbur Miss Phyllis Pierce, whose wedding took place yesterday. Mrs. E. K. Cameron presented Miss Pierce, who wore a smart black tailored costume and silk felt hat. with a pretty floral pdSy, and AJr. J. E. Campbell presented her with a pair of pictures and an exclusive pottery jardiniere with the-best wishes of the party. Other speakers endorsing Mr. Campbell’s remarks were Messrs. J. W. Velvin, E. Kirkby, H. Ackroyd and F. Mills, senr. Mr. Ackroyd sang. Those present included Mrs. A. R. B. Pierce (who wore a nigger brown cloth coat and smart brown hat), Miss Kathleen Pierce (chocolate brown tailored coat and fur, with hat to tone) and Mesdames J. W. Velvin, H. Ackroyd, E. Kirkby, J. E.
