WISHES
If I could have a fairy wish, A happy child I’d be; For first I would be fairy-size, So beautiful and wee! On silver wings I’d gaily go O’er springtime fields of green, And then I’d hurry home again, To tell you what I’d seen. I’d visit with the little folk Who live in homes so small; The dormice and the squirrels grey, I’d go to see them all. I’d ride upon a swallow’s back And off we’d swiftly fly, To cloudland palaces we’d go, Fair cities in the sky. And could I have another wish, A giant I would be! ■What fun to stride by hill and dale, So boundless and so free. The Grown-ups couldn’t catch me then, No matter how they tried! I'd never go to school again, But run away outsidel
