GOLD CLAUSE SUITS
POTENTIAL COST IN STATES. ATTORNEY-GENERAL’S WARNING. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Washington, July 10. The Attorney-General, Mr. H. S. Cummings, told the House of Representatives Banking Committee to-day that unless a resolution were passed barring damages suits against the Government to collect losses from dollar devaluation an international agreement to establish a gold standard would be almost impossible. He gave no indication that file Administration is considering any attempt at present to restore the gold standard. Mr. Cummings said that the Government faced a potential loss of £1,400,000,000 if the gold clause suite were permitted and damages shown.
