A Case of Bad Luck. , L, Des Forges was convicted and discharged on a charge of allowing a chimney at his residence in Victor: Street to catch fire by Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., in the Hawera Magistrate’s Court yesterday. The information was laid by the borough inspector, Mr. L. Hunt, who said that Des Forges had been informed when he entered the house five months previously that the chimneys had been swept. Des Forges had since had them swept. “It seems purely a case of bad luck,” said Mr. Woodward. Civil Cases at Hawera. Judgment for plaintiff was given by Mr. W. H. The firm will also sell household furniture and effects at Manaia on Tuesday, June 25, at 2 p.m. on account of Mrs. W. J. Browp, as advertised. A Hibernian ball at Hawera will be held in St. Joseph’s Hall, Milmoe Street, on Wednesday. Two waltzing competitions will be held at the Fraser Road Cricket Club dance on July 1. One will be for open competition an< the other will be a maiden contest. Old-time, modern and novelty dances will be held and Stewart Gordon will be heard in novelty numbers. A free bus will fuil from Eltham.
