The Taranaki County Council yestere day congratulated Cr. W. Hall on his appointment as a justice of the peace. Messrs. K. and R. Hickford, Okato, are spending a fortnight’s holiday at Wellington and Nelson. Messrs. C; G. Cocksedge ahd C. Wooldridge, Okato, will leave on morning for Wellington, where they will join the Remuera on Saturday oh a holiday trip to England. The death occurred last night of Dr. Alexander Paterson, Christchurch, recognised as one of the leaders of the dental profession in New Zealand, says a Press Association message. He was a hfe member and past president of the New Zealand Dental Association. It is anticipated in State departmental circles that with the retirement of Mr. A D. Park, Secretary to the Treasury, who has been appointed a director of the Mortgage Corporation of New Zealand, he will be succeeded in his public service post by Mr. G. C. Rodda, Assist-ant-Secretary to the Treasury, says; the Christchurch Press. In all probability Mt B. C. Ashwin, second assistantsecretary to the Treasury, will succeed Mr. Rodda in his present position. The death occurred at Dunedin ort Sunday of Mrs. A. C. Begg, m her 91st year. Mrs. Begg arrived jn Otago with her parents in 1864, and three year? later married the late Mr. Alexander Campbell Begg, Dunedin. She had resided at Dunedin ever since. Mrs. Begg, who was a devout member of the Presbyteria Church, always took a keen and acti interest in social weffare work, and was connected with a number of charitable and philanthropic organisations. Surviving members of her family are Messrs. James Begg and J. C. Begg, Dunedin, Dr. A. Clarke Begg, Swansea, Wales, Dr. R. Campbell Begg, Wellington, Miss Catherine Begg, Mrs. Colin L. Holmes and Mrs. C. C. HarwArd.
