PRESENTATION AT NORANBY
MISS JOAN McEWEN HONOURED. In view of Miss Joan McEwen’s approaching marriage, friends and . fellow church workers gathered in the Normanby Presbyterian hall on Thursday night to wish her and her fiance, Mr. D. Pope all happiness in their new home. A gay decorative scheme ’carried, out in green and gold streamers lent a festive air to the hall, and & pleasant evening was passed in games and competitions. Songs were sung by Misses Pauline and Christine. McEwen and Mr. C. L. Hay, and an > amusing playette entitled “Grandma at the Photographer’s” was staged by Misses Nancy Frei, Eila Harrison, Nancy Shearer, Joan Davey, Constance Evans and E. Shearer. To meet her friends the guest of the evening chose a smart frock in red and grey checked effects, providing an attractive foil to a pretty bouquet of pink tonings made by Mrs. J. Meuli and presented by Elaine Hay and lan Galloway.. After supper the' Rev. J. K. Watson spoke of the good services that had been given in i the district by Miss McEwen, who had been a teacher in the Sunday school for several years. Mr. Pope had. been a conscientious member of the choir. On behalf of their fellow parishioners Mr. Watson presented Miss McEwen with a gift of cutlery and a bronze jardiniere. To Mr. Pope he presented a brass smokers’ outfit. Mr, Pope replied. Among those present were Mesdames Watson, Hey, Meuli, McEwen, A. Galloway, Kellett, Grant, Hayward, and Misses Pearl Gane, Jean Allen, C. Stewart, N. Frei, N. and E. Shearer, J. Davey, E. Harrison and C. Evans.
