CANDIDATES PREPARING. SOME GOOD PERFORMANCES. . (By Telegraph—Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night. Satan io and Biform are reported to be sore after their exertions on the first day at Ellerslie, although the latter is expected to start in the Great Northern Steeplechase. Verden and Master Musk are regarded as unlikely starters in the Great Northern Steeplechase. They will probably run in the Remuera Hurdles. The No. 2 grass was available for galloping this morning but was little used. Kiltowyn sprinted five furlongs well in Im. 4 2-55., the first two in 25 l-ss. He is very bright and muscular. Mercian Prince beat King Win over a round in Im. 465. Mercian Prince came through his race in the Cornwall Handicap particularly well and. he may do better before the meeting is over. Adalene sprinted three furlongs in 38 3-55., hitting out well. She is in great heart to tackle her engagement in the Carbine Plate. Travelling Agent and Black Marlin gave a good display over four hurdles. Travelling Agent has apparently trained on well since winning at Te Rapa and should run well to-morrow. Master Musk, who fell in the Great Northern Hurdles, cleared four hurdles in good style. He should be difficult to beat if he jumps as well to-morrow. Sub-editor was also schooled over hurdles and went well. He did not start on the first day.
