The Tararua Hack Hurdle Handicap was a poor contest, the favourite Diamond falling at the first fence and he brought down Arctic Star. Then at the first fence in the straight Count Wll- - and Affliction were eliminated Minos led to the turn out of the straight but Esteem took charge soon afterwards, only to be displaced by Air Laddie five furlongs from home. Esteem was done with at the half mile and Air Laddie ran home a comfortable winner by two lengths. Esteem was a dozen lengths ahead of Saltspray and the only other to finish was Minos. Saltspray lacked condition and Esteem looked as if he had had an easy time since Woodville. Maiden to Sporting Song.

The New Plymouth-trained gelding Sporting Song won the Kuku Maiden nicely at a short price. The field was a poor one and Sporting Song always was favourite. Reed got him away nicely and quickly had him in front on the rails. Entheos and Meritor were handy to him to the straight entrance, where Meritor ran wide and Sporting Song went on to a two lengths’ victory over Popette, who beat Eka Tere by a head, with Terry, Garter Red and Entheos at the head of the others. Entheos and Meritor should both do better soon Sporting Song did ’ not appear to have much in hand at the finish.

Gold Mission Finishes Well. H. Dulieu’s New Plymouth stable scored its second win when Gold Mission came home in the Waitohu Hack Handicap. Gold Mission lay behind Acceptable and Debut in the run to the straight. Acceptable was beaten as soon as the comer was turned and Gold Mission finished too well for Debut, beating him by a length. Merry Ruler was two lengths away third, .followed by Happy Hunting and Acceptable.-

Walton Park’s Improvement. Walton Park, who had, run badly at Woodville, found conditions to his liking and won the Raukawa Cup at a good price Trishna set the early pace but was in trouble after going six furlongs and Might was left in charge from Walton Park, who had moved up fast from last place. These two were followed into the straight by Lady Ronald. In a fine finish Walton Park beat Might by a neck, with Lapel a neck away third and then came Davistock, Lady Ronald and Gainsfid. Walton Park was admirably suited by the state of the couise. Might ran a great race for first up and Lapel was a shade unlucky. Lady Ronald Wias going well on the home turn but did not run on well.

Win for Boudoir. Boudoir won the Otaki Hack Handicap very easily She had the race in hand a long way from home and following Tupurangi into the. straight won as she liked by two lengths. Tupurangi was five lengths clear of Hunting Bag, who was third,-.with Aussie Ra a poor fourth, and Kurapae and Lord Moutoa next. Gay Boy was a bad last. The Open Sprint.

Croupier and Refresher were the. favourites for the Huia Handicap but both were beaten out ■of the money. The Tiger got to the front quickly and led to the straight from Cottesmore. Cottesmore stayed just too well for The Tiger and beat him home by a head. Bodyline was a length away third and Refresher was a good fourth. Then came Hunting Lodge, with Croupier close up. Refresher was considered almost unbeatable but he could not hold his place in the run to the straight. Bodyline was Unlucky.

Last Race to Arctic King. . . Arctic King, whose form at Egmont was good, won the Te Horo Hack Handicap with a fine finishing run. Alby and Ethiop led early but were headed half way through the race. Whetuma ran round .the field ton the top bend and looked like coming on to win but could not stick and Arctic King swept up on the outer.
