The weather was fine for the final gallops at Ellerslie, but there was a very heavy fog over the course until about 8 30, and all the fast work was done after that hour. No. 1 grass trackwas open, while the hurdles were erected on the outside of the course proper. After heavy rain the ground was sodden, but good efforts were recorded. Those to impress most on the flat were Baroscope, Tradesman, King Rey, Good Hunting, Lord Vai, Horowhenua and Rebel Chief. ■ , Among the hurdlers Stanchion and Karangapai pleased most, while Pahu, Clan Ronald and Royal Limond were responsible for a good showing over the. steeplechase course. . One of the best efforts oyer a round was by Baroscope, who beat Kiltowyn in Im. 55 2-55., the last seven taking Im. 335. and the final six Im. 19 l-5s-Baroscope handled the heavy going well, but Kiltowyn appeared to be hampered b Monanui beat Royal Potoa comfortably over six,furlongs in Im. 21 4-ss. . Chile and Master Musk ran a round in Im. 59 3-ss. Both worked well. Versant, On Parade and Teddy Boy were bunched after half a mile. They could not be timed. . , Ruri was sent six furlongs and worked with plenty of dash. # Tradesman ran five furlongs in Im. 6 3-ffc. and finished full of running. King Rey beat Scotch Nation pointless over a mile in Im. 50 4-ss. Good Hunting reeled off five furlongs in Im. 6 2-ss. . Lord Val finished m front of Mercian Prince and Tybalt over a mile in Im. 49 l-55., the last half-mile in 54 l-ss. Lord Val was on the outside and his effort was distinctly good. Horowhenua and King Musk went away slowly from the seven furlong post and ran home in Im. 33 l-55., the last six taking Un. 20 l-ss. and the final halfmile 53 4-ss. Horowhenua finished several lengths in front. Rerepai was given; useful, work, completing his .last half-mile in 54 l-ss. Rebel Chief and Lady Kyra covered five furlongs, the first two in 26 2-55., and completed the journey in Im. 6 2-ss. Adsum, Cornerman and United were schooled over five hurdles, taking 2m. 31 3-ss. Adsum impressed most Ruaform and Stanchion were associated over the same fences, completing the task in 2m. 27 2-ss. Stanchion’s effort was very impressive, and Ruaform shaped satisfactorily.. 1 - One of the best efforts of the morning over four hurdles was that of Karangapai, who ran right away from. Whistling Rufus and Rasouli. The time recorded was Im. 20 2-55., and Karangapai gave a bold display. ’ There was only one school over the steeplechase country, when Clan Ronald, Pahu, Royal Limond, Forest Glow, Domo and Bells of Bow were sent for a round and, with the exception of Bells of Bow, who came to grief at the stone wall , at the foot of the hill, they all fenced safely. Clan Ronald was first over the hill and had a good lead coming to the fences on the flat, but Pahu and Royal Limond were with him at the; finish. Pahu gave a good exhibition, as did Royal Limond, who gave the others a start and was with them at the end. ■, . Kiltowyn was : scratched -for the Cornwall Handicap at 1.22. p.m.
