MILITARY LEADER DEAD MAJOR-GENERAL SIR A. W. ROBIN. ONE OF NEW ZEALAND’S GREATEST - COMMANDED BOER WAR TROOPS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The death occurred to-day of MajorGeneral Sir Alfred W. Robin, probably foremost among New Zealand’s military leaders. He distinguished himself in the South African war, commanding the first contingent which left Wellington in 1899. Later he entered the War Office in England and on his return he was appointed general officer commanding the New Zealand forces, being succeeded by General Sir Alexander Godley in 1010. During the Great War Sir Alfred Robin commanded the New Zealand forces within the Dominion, and two years after the war ended he served a terin as acting-Administrator of the mandated territory of Western Samoa. He was knighted in 1912 and four years later he was created a K.C.M.G. He retifed from military service in 1920 but remained prominently associated with the Boy Scout movement, in which he was always keenly interested. Sir Alfred was unmarried. He leaves a sister, Miss Margaret Robin, who always kept house for him at Wellington. The funeral is to be strictly private.
