Bombshell in Racing Circles.

A recent statement which was made., by Mr. L. S. Mackinnon, the chairman of the Victoria Racing Club, that his club might take drastic steps towards j the exclusion of geldings from Weight-for-age races has - thrown a bombshell into racing circles, which may.have farreaching effects, says an Australian writer. If the Victoria Racing Club should make a definite move in that direction and if the*. Australian Jockey Club should follow the lead; the last will probably have. been seen of the first-class gelding which has been more or less a feature of Australian racing during the last two. decades.. Whether the Australian Jockey Club would act is only a matter of conjecture. ■ The two ruling bodies, t‘. t , Victoria Racing Club and the Australian Jockey Club, have generally worked together, and a few years ago both agreed amicably to the debarment of geldings from the Classics and the Sires’ Produce Stakes. The matter of a general weight-for-age ban on geldings, however, is one for serious discussion by the Australian Jockey Club committee. The hint by Mr. Mackinnon, naturally, will be regarded seriously by committeemen of the Australian Jockey Club, but until that body considers the subject, the'matter, is .left, in, abeyance.
