MOKAU DISTRICT NEWS
BASKETBALL CLUB MEETINGA meeting of the Maori Old Girls’ Basketball Club was held at Mrs. T. Sullivan’s residence, Mokau, during the week-end. Mrs. Sullivan presided over a large attendance. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £1 3s. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. T. Sullivan; vice-presi-dent, Mrs. K. Wetere; delegates, Mrs. C. Marshall and Miss R. Turner; club captain, Mrs. C. Marshall; secretary, Miss R. Turner.
It was unanimously agreed to change the name of the club to the “Mokau Hukarere Club.” Nomination and colours are to be the same as last year. Practices are to be held on the school grounds. A dance arranged by the Mokau hall committee was held on Saturday evening. There was a good attendance, and with music supplied by Mrs. N. Taylor a very pleasant evening was enjoyed. Miss I. McCrae spent the school vacation at New Plymouth. Miss M. Marusich has left Mokau to live at Hamilton. Mrs. Wilson arid son, Wellington, are the guests of Mrs. F. G. Northern, Mokau.
Mr. W. Sykes spent the school vacation at his home at Manaia. Mr. F. G. Northern has been appointed chairman of the Mokau school committee. Mrs. N. Clifton is on an extended visit to Auckland as the guest of her daughter, Mrs. M. K. Law,
