ANZAC DAY CELEBRATION. OPENING OF GOLF CLUB’S SEASON. An impressive ceremony was held in the Matiere hall on Anzac Day. Mr._ M. J. McAvady, president of the Matiere Chamber of Commerce, presided. Mr. A. V. Lodder, president of the Matiere Returned Soldiers’ Association, acted as marshall and the Rev. Mr. Walters and Rev. Mr. Alexandffer conducted the service Owing to rain the parade of 50 school children, over 20 returned soldiers and territorials under Sergeant Daniels had to be abandoned. Many wreaths were placed on the roll of honour. Mr. J. McAvady made r. special point of including the children and their future place as citizens in his remarks. Mr. Lodder thanked the returned soldiers for their presence and the many citizens and children for their attendance. Mr. Walters delivered a fine address, and the ceremony concluded with the Last Post played by Mr. George Goldring.
