NEW MOTOR TRUCKS

HARDY’S TRANSPORT, LTD. MODERN, EFFICENT SERVICE. Four new truck chassis recently made a combined appearance at Wanganui and attracted considerable attention. The new trucks were imported direct from the G.M.C. factory by Mr. C. Heighton, manager of Hardy’s Transport Limited, and will be added to the firm’s fleet of trucks. The new vehicles are the outcome of the business growing to such an extent that additional material is required for the maintenance of an efficient 24-hour service between Wanganui, Wellington and New Plymouth. Hardy’s Transport Limited, which originated at Wanganui 11 years ago, was established for the purpose of maintaining a road service between Wellington and Wanganui, taking in the various coastal towns en route. Since that date its connections have expanded to Taranaki, and the firm has grown to such an extent that 21 hands are necessary to cope with the ever-increasing amount of work. This increase in staff is the direct result of the firm receiving the confidence of the business men and merchants along the route it serves. The new chassis are among the first of the 1935 models to reach New Zealand, and are built to carry a four-ton pay load and to comply with the present motor highway regulations. The engines are capable of developing 77 h.p., with overhead valve apparatus, and when fully loaded are calculated to be able to negotiate steep grades with perfect ease. The vehicles are equipped with balloon tyres, are easy sprung, with full floating rear axle and sweet running and silent gears. Similar makes of trucks in use by the firm have covered over 450,000 miles. In addition the Transport Co. have imported a complete power unit and £2OO worth of spare parts. The business people of Taranaki will appreciate the enterprise of this firm, which not only pioneered the service and brought it up to its present state of efficiency, but which is prepared to spend a large sum of money in order that the business will still further expand and be run with clockwork precision.

The new vehicles of Hardy’s Transport Co. Ltd., together with the fleet of the New Plymouth Express Co. Ltd., which takes over the traffic from Hardy’s Transport at Hawera, will mark a fresh step forward by this enterprising transport combination, which now has a combined, up-to-date fleet of 21 vehicles. This ensures North Taranaki clients of a continuance of the absolute reliability which is a special feature of the combination of these two transport organisations. Incidentally, though only four months of 1935 have elapsed, seven new vehicles, including the four mentioned above, have been added to the fleet of Hardy's Transport Ltd. since the beginning of the year.*
