RONGOTAI AIRPORT

INQUIRY INTO DEVELOPMENT. AERODROME FOR WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, April 17. The Wellington City Council last night decided to institute an immediate full inquiry into the question of the development of Rongotai airport to fit it as a landing ground for all types of machines. An interesting feature of the investigation is that by means of a scale and contour model the wind conditions will be examined in miniature and from their study it will be possible to decide what aroa should be reclaimed on the seafront to improve runways and what extent of hill removal will be necessary. The Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, stated that there was every likelihood of the council obtaining very favourable subsidy terms from the Government. The scheme as broadly suggested is expected to cost up to £60,000. It was suggested by one councillor that the aerodrome should be removed from council control and be administered by an air board..
