UNUSUAL ACCIDENT
BOTTLE REBOUNDS INTO TRAIN. WOMAN SUFFERS SEVERE SHOCK. - Ricochetting violently from the earth side of a cutting against which some thoughtless passenger had thrown it, a beer bottle crashed through the window of the excursion train returning from Napier to New Plymouth early yesterday morning and showered the occupants of the carriage with splintered glass. Two people, a man and a woman, sitting in corner seats had a remarkable escape from serious injury, the flying bottle narrowly missing them as it crashed down on to the floor. As far as is known they were unmarked by the fragments of either window or bottle. The woman, however, suffered severe shock and required medical attention after arrival at New Plymouth. The unusual accident occurred in a cutting just after the train left Lepperton. The bottle had apparently been thrown by some member of a festive party in one of the front carriages and, striking the soft earth of the cuttingside, rebounded bodily without breaking until it struck the carriage floor.
