LEVIES REDUCED
HAWERA HOSPITAL ESTIMATES. DECREASE OF £lOOO ON LAST YEAR. Owing to reduced capital repayments, levies on local bodies by the Hawera Hospital Board for 1935-36 show a reduction of nearly £lOOO on those for the year just past, according to estimates approved at a special meeting of the board yesterday. The rate per £lOO of rateable capital value has been reduced from Is lOd to Is BJd. The total levy is £B3OO 10s, compared with £9222 18s last year. The total is made up of the maintenance levy £7212 16s Bd, and capital levy £lOB7 13s Id, compared with £7128 18s 3d and £2093 19s 9d last year. On these amounts, there will be a subsidy of £6433 Is 7d on maintenance expenditure, compared with £6205 ,10s 7d last year, and the capital expenditure will be subsidised £1 for £l.
The levies are distributed among the contributing local bodies as follows (figures for last year in parentheses): Hawera County £2786 10s (£3043 Ils); Eltham County, £2192 3s (£2402 Ils); Waimate West County, £1783 16s (£1946 Is); Hawera Borough, £ll4O 10s (£1235 17s); Eltham Borough, £307. 18s (£497 3s); Manaia Town Board, £B9 13s (£9l 15s). The cost per occupied bed is estimated at £lB6 8s and per patient treated at £lO ss.
The subsidy on maintenance this year will be 17s lOd for £1 compared with 17s 5d last year.
