KING’S JUBILEE

NEW PLYMOUTH ARRANGEMENTS.

HOLIDAY OBSERVANCE INVITED. New Plymouth will celebrate the silver jubilee of King George’s accession to the throne on May 6 by a special holiday, illuminations, a civic procession and gathering at Pukekura Park. The Mayor will invite the people of the town to observe the holiday and all borough employees who can Toe spared from essential services will be given a free day on full pay.

During the jubilee week the town's gala lighting will be installed in Devon Street and on the morning of May 6 there will be a procession from the post office to Pukekura Park, after which a thanksgiving service will be held in the open air. The details will be arranged by the finance committee of the council. The town clerk has been authorised to print 5000 copies of the order of proceedings, which will be broadcast and amplified by loud speakers at the park. Collection boxes will be placed at the park entrance gates and money collected will be dedicated to the Mayor’s relief fund.
