HAWERA PERFORMERS

HORSES AT NEW PLYMOUTH. TWO RUNNERS HAVE BAD LUCK. (Bjr “Limited.”) At New, Plymouth on Saturday two Hawera horses who had winning chances extinguished, by not - taking part in , their races were Buri and Fairfax. Ruri was being taken to the course when hfe broke away from his attendant and bolted down to the beach, having. fallen en route, shedding his plates and knocking himself about severely enough to prevent- his running at Feilding. Fairfax, who had been behaving herself so well at. barrier practice on her home course, again played up and refused to leave the mark. Fairfax is ,to be given another chance and will go to Auckland to contest the Great Northern Chainpagne Stakes oil Saturday. The filly S fractiousiihss was a great disappointment to her connections, who were confident of her ability to win as she had been doing- everything aright and. galloping in great style. G. Duncan not , be, at Auckland and another, rider will have to be procured for Fairfax. Not Going North.

■Ji Fryer has decided not to take March Alone and Copey to Ellerslie for the Steeplechase. The pair will be reserved fdr the Hawera meeting. The maiden Autumn Leaf ran so well at New Plymouth that he will attract attention in the Maiden Stakes at Feilding on Saturday. Heavy going will not detract from Autumn Leaf’s chances.. Golden Hair ran another disappointing race and is unlikely to race at Feilding. She has evidently become soured as she ran much worse than her track work suggested. ' . Friesland was restive at the barrier and was hopelessly left. Colossal won . his second hurdle race in good style, showing all-round improvement. He is a smart galloper on the flat and was unlucky in the early 1 part of the season in not winning a maiden race. Now that he has become seasoned he is likely to win a distance hack race and may be worth considering for the Jubilee Hack Cup at Hawera next month. While on his way home from New Plymouth Mr. W. Kirkland called to have a look at Whenuakura, who is running out at Mr. Appleyard’s farm. Whenuakura is looking in splendid health and is to be sent to Foxton to have the advantage of salt water bathing before being put into work.

Diagano Schooled. With a view to hurdle racing C. Jackson yesterday morning sent Diagano over a round of the schooling hurdles. Ridcien by M. Conway Diagano gave a capital exhibition over five fences, jumping cleanly throughout. Ruaform (M. Conway) also went a found, confirming the good impression he created at his first schooling at Hawera. SILVER RING IMPROVING. LAMENESS OF HALL MARK. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 8.45 p.m. Sydney. April 15. Silver Ring is still improving. After exercising to-day he moved very freely to run three furlongs in 435., displaying some dash. Hall Mark was very lame after Saturday's race, an injured heel giving a good deal of trouble, but he worked soundly enough to-day, the foot being held together with a barred shoe.
