JUNIOR MUSIC GROUPS
MEETINGS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. EXCELLENT ATTENDANCES. There was an exceptionally good attendance of children and a number of parents at the monthly meeting of the primary and junior branches of the New Plymouth Music Teachers’ Association at “Stradholme” on Saturday night. The intermediate branch held its meeting after the others.
The primary branch was entertained by* music, elocutionary items and community singing. The programme was: Irene Gadd, pianoforte solo; Kath. Millar, elocution; Robert Davies, ’cello solo; Miss J. McQueen, talk on Beethoven; L. Davidson, pianoforte solo; Jean Miles, violin solo; Kura Darby, elocution; Robert Davies, ’cello; Dinah Anderson, vocal solo.
The junior programme began with a talk by Miss Jean Grice on the life and works of Schubert. Miss Grice played one of his impromptus and others contributed items as follows: Bernard Miles, violin solo; Don Smart, elocution; Archie Sunderland, pianoforte solo; Alison and Nancy McQueen, vocal duet; community singing. An exceptionally interesting programme was given by members of the intermediate branch. Miss Molly Purdue gave a talk on American music, the theme for the evening’s items. This was followed by: Mr. Cliff Nodder, pianoforte solo; Miss EmiJy Chapman, vocal solos; Miss Betty Aylward, recitation; Mr. David Dawson, clarionet solo; Misies E. Chapman and Rachel Mawhinney, vocal duet; Mr. Cliff Nodder, pianoforte solo; Miss Enid Hay recitation; Miss Jean McQueen, vocal solo Accompaniments were played by Misses Agnes Abum and Joan Deare. Ping-pong and supper concluded the meeting. The winner of the ping-pong was Mr. Cliff Nodder. with Miss Rachel Mawhinney. runner-up.
