HEALTHY POSITION

STRATFORD COUNTY FUNDS. ALL THE RIDINGS IN CREDIT. The Stratford county fund has improved during the past financial year by £595, and all ridings are in credit, including Mangaehu, which has attained that position for the first time- for well over ten years. Last year both Mangaehu and Ngatimaru ridings were in debit. A statement of the position of the county fund account and the riding balances at March 31, 1935, was submitted to the council meeting on Saturday by the county clerk, Mr. C. J. Camp-, bell, who said that after deducting outstanding cheques the fund showed a credit of £5091, compare with a credit of £4496 at March 1934.

County rate collections for the current year improved by 7.27 per cent, and the collection of arrears by 6.5 per cent. Harbour rate collections improved by 6.67 per cent, and collection of arrears by 2.66 per cent. The following table, with last year’s figures in parentheses, showed the position:—County rates 1 Current 89.3 per cent (82 per cent), arrears 51.0 per cent. (45 per cent.). Harbour rates: Current 88.4 per cent. (81.7 per cent.), arrears 49.9 per cent. (47.2 per cent.).

The riding positions were: North, £852 credit (£1542 credit); south, £1077 credit (£1257 credit); east, £406 credit (£674 credit); west, £469 credit (£952 credit); Mangaehu, £69 credit (£619 debit); Ngatimaru, £5Bl credit (£ll5 credit).
