BOISTEROUS CONDITIONS WAITARA CLUB’S OPENING. CANADIAN FOURSOME RESULTS. The official opening of the Manakorihi Golf Club, Waitara, took place on Saturday afternoon. Owing to the boisterous weather that prevailed the attendance was not so large as at previous openings. The president, Mr. E. A. George, in declaring the links open, stated that members would be better catered for this season as the grass in the fairways would be kept cut, which would be a great benefit to members. Another factor in their favour was that no cattle would be grazed on the links for the greater of the season. The women, members provided afternoon tea. FRASER ROAD CLUB. OPENING OF WINTER SEASON. The Fraser Road Golf Club was fortunate in having beautiful weather for its opening day on Thursday afternoon. Thanks to the voluntary work of several of the committee, the Long View links were in splendid order and the large number of visitors present from neighbouring clubs had an enjoyable afternoon. Recent improvements include tions to several of the holes, thus lengthening the course by 160 yards, and the erection of a. small club house. A Canadian foursome played during the afternoon was won by G. Pease and Mrs. Pease (Mangatoki), who returned a net score for the twelve holes played of 39. The president, Mr. L. B. Galbraith, welcomed the visitors and thanked the committee members who had worked so well in preparing the course for the season’s play. Mr. Pease replied on behalf of the visitors and Mrs. Galbraith officially opened the season by driving off the first ball. DRAW FOR WOMEN’S MATCH. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB PLAY.
