MUSSOLINI STADIUM
OPENING TENNIS TOURNAMENT.
INTERNATIONAL STATUS GIVEN.

The Italian tennis championships were recently accorded official status by the international federation in order to commemorate the opening of the new Mussolini stadium, situated on the bank of the Tiber. Seven courts are dotted amid avenues of trees, flower beds and fountains about a central pillar dedicated to Signor Mussolini. Seating accommodation is. provided for 15,000 people, chiefly round the centre court.
The competitors will represent twelve nations and include the Englishmen Hughes and Hare, the Frenchmen Lesueur, Feret and Destremau, the Americans Hines and Gulley, also Von Cramm, Menzel, Hecht, Timmer and Stefani. ■ ■ - .
