TARATA DOG TRIALS

CONCLUDING DAY’S KUNS

HUNTAWAY TO H. R. SCOTT’S BEN.

I. MACRAE WINS LOCAL CUP. The Tarata dog trials were brought to a successful conclusion on Saturday in fine but very cold weather, which affected the attendance, those present being mostly residents of the district. The remaining runs in the huntaway were decided in the morning. and tne local event, in which there were 18 competitors, was run in the afternoon and was completed about 3.30. The work in the huntaway showed no improvement on that of the previous afternoon. The winner was Ben, owned by H. R. Scott, Whakamara. He dropped five points. The second dog, Bronze, owned by Martin Lyall, Awakino, dropped four points in huntaway and two in style. In the local novice event the competitors had to head and pull their sheep and then yard them, points being given for heading, pulling and yarding, as well as for command and style. The total was 58 points and only two competitors secured over 40 points, the work being disappointing. The judge, Mr. E. W. McCarthy, Wanganui, considered it was the hardest event on the programme. The winner was W. J. Jackson’s Glen with 43 points. lan Macßae, secretary of the club, was second half a point away with Moss. He won the S. George rose bowl outright, which was presented for maiden dogs owned in the east riding of the Inglewood county scoring most points in that event. lan Macßae also secured a leg-in in Mr. R.
