SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION. SUCCESS OF THE JUNIOR TEAM. About 30 members were present at the annual meeting of the Matiere Football Club. The balance-sheet with a credit balance of £l3 14s 5d showed that the club was in a sound financial position. The last season had been a very successful one, the report stated, three teams being entered in the competitions, senior, junior and third grade. The senior team was runner-up to Ohura in all competitions. The junior team won its competition after many interesting and close games. The third grade team also played well, but often suffered frPm having to fill positions in the junior team.
The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. H. Stoddart; president, Mr, A. K. Margan: vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Binns, G. Etherington and F. Pleasants; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. R. Turner; club captain, Mr. N. E. Margan; committee, -club captain, team captain, junior team captain and vice-captain, L. A. Passau, M. Sowry and A. Lodder; senior selectors, Messrs. ,N. E. Margan, G. Etherington and team captain; junior selector and manager, Mr. G. Etherington; senior team manager, Mr. J; Binns; delegates to Ohura Rugby Union, Messrs. N. E. Margan, H. Stoddart and J. Binns; coaches. Mr. H. Nelson (forwards) and Mr. J. R. Turner (backs).
Subscriptions for the year were fixed at 5s for senior players and 3s for junior. Honorary members’ subscriptions were fixed at 2s 6d. It was decided to enter a senior and a junior team in the competition. The opening day was left to the committee to decide.
It was arranged ’ that the committee should wait on the Domain Board to endeavour to have another dressing shed erected.
