Miss Rhea Furrie entertained friends on Wednesdays afternoon at a party at her home in Orlando Street. Mrs. B. Farrant has returned home after a visit to her mother, Mrs. F. Weston. Miss Lucy Penn entertained friends for bridge at her home on Tuesday night. Miss D. Bourke, Lower Hutt, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Bourke, Juliet Street.

Mrs. Alan Furrie, Apia, Samoa, who has been the guest of Mrs. L. J. Furrie, has left on a motor tour of the Hawke’s Bay district. Mrs. C. Lamplough is spending a holiday at Wellington. Mrs. Wilkins, who has been the guest of Mrs. Wendleborn, has returned toWaverley. Mrs. Price, Wellington, is visiting Stratford, and is the guest of her mother, Mrs. E. Hall. Mrs. M. V. Aagaard has returned to Whangamomona after a visit to Mrs. Aagaard, Stratford. Mrs. W. Spence was a bridge hostess on Thursday when those present were: Mesdames Turner, Harvey, J. Lyons, A. Coleman, W. Farquarson, Misses J. Coleman, N. Thorpe and N. Spence. Mrs. L. Furrie entertained members of the Portland Bridge Club on Tuesday afternoon, when those present were Mesdames D. Malone, A. Coleman, J. Lyons, L. Jardine, E. P. Jeffries, Spence, D. Steven. Mrs. C. Carroll was hostess at a euchre afternoon at Midhirst last Friday. The winners were Mrs. N. Carroll 1, Mrs. Blick 2. Among those present were Mesdames Symons (New Plymouth), A. Hunter, Guthrie, Banning, Spencer, P. Anderson, Platt, Graham, G. Andersen, Blick and V. Carroll.

The Little Theatre reading circle was entertained by Miss Margaret Phillips on Thursday night when there was a good attendance. “The Improper Duchess” by J. B. Fagen was read. Those present included: Mesdames B. Bellringer, H. von Stunner, R. Carryer, N. H. Moss and Misses Cartright (2) and M. Femmel.

„ Mrs. C. Williams gave a jolly dance a? her residence last Saturday in honour of Dr. and Mrs. Armstrong who are taking up residence at Otahuhu. Mrs. Armstrong wore a smart frock of bottle green ring velvet with sequin decollet. Among those present were Mesdames Armstrong, E. McCullough, R. Neal, W. Farquarson, G. Carter, Newell, Goldring, Ryan, Mark, Misses M. Whittle, Sangster. A surprise party at which 70 were present was held at the Pembroke hall on Monday night in connection with the forthcoming marriage of Miss G. Eustace and Mr. P. Waite. Mr. E. P. Aldridge, on behalf of those present, asked Miss Eustace to accept numerous useful gifts. Mr. Waite responded. Dancing was popular, the music being played bv Miss Lorna Waite, Mr. T. T. Waite and Mr. R. Belcher. Miss Nesta Belcher and Mr. Tonkins sang. A card tournament resulted in a win for Mrs. Tomlyn and Mr. McNeil. Supper was served by the women.

The gala day held at the Avon Croquet Club on Wednesday was thoroughly enjoyable, although rain in the afternoon intervened in outside play. The afternoon was spent in competition and cards, the winners being: Peanut, Mrs. Hillock; doll, Mrs. Boon; basket, Mrs. Nolan; lucky number, Mrs. Butcher; tongue, Mrs. Jenkin. The winners of the euchre prizes were: Mrs. Butchart 1, Mrs. Lampshire 2. Among those present were: Mesdames Alger, Jenkin, Macßae, Stephens, Moore, Hillock, Boon, Brocklebank, Moss, Lamplough, Moon, Butchart, Lampshire, Weston, Clark, Ross, Harkness, Jones, Allen, Collingwood, Butcher, Stavely, Moore, Peacock, Gubb and Pennington, Eltham. A coming-of-age party in honour of Mr. N. Copeland was held in the Oddfellows Hall, Midhirst, on Monday. A jolly time was spent in dancing and competitions, the Jolly Miller dance causing much excitement. A Monte Carlo was won by Miss B. Kovaleski and her partner, Mr. A. Jensen. Miss Kelly was the winner of a competition. Musical items were given by Mr. Casey (song) accompanied by Mrs. Casey and Mr. R. Meads (humorous recitation). After supper Mr. Harkness proposed the toast of Mr. Copeland and wished him every success in the future. Mr. Copeland replied. Wright’s orchestra played the music. Among those present were Mesdames Jensen, Costelli, Copeland, Platt, Casey, Meads, Thompson, Trass, Fraser, Phillips, Gerrard, Hogg, Tapp, Boniface, Misses Jensen, Trass, Guthrie, Howard (2), Willdon, Griffin, Kovaleski (2), Harkness, Phillips, Costelli, Boniface, Tapp, Kelly, Forbes and Hamlyn. An enjoyable evening was spent at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Armstrong on Monday night when a surprise party comprising about 40 people, gathered there in honour of the departure of Dr. and Mrs. Armstrong for Otohuhu. The time was spent in dancing and bridge. Mr. G. Carter on behalf of those present, presented Mrs. Armstrong with a I set of crystal necklace and earrings, while Dr. and. Mrs. Armstrong were presented with a gilt clock. Mrs. Armstrong received her guests wearing a smartly cut frock of dark red ring velvet. Among those present were: 'Mr. and Mrs. G. Mrs. McLejjtn, on behalf of those present, presented Miss Taylor with a bouquet of autumn flowers and a breadknife. Those present were Mesdames Williams, L. J. Rowell, D. McLean, Marchant, E. H.
