TENNIS AT ROTOKARE

PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. Trophies won during the season were presented at a dance held by the Rotokare Tennis Club in the Mon Desir on Thursday night. The club president, Mr. H. A. Bennett, made the presentation. The last season was perhaps the most successful the club had experienced since its inception, said Mr. Bennett. It, had expended more than £6o' on permanent improvements. The membership' was 65 with the result that the committee had been able to carry forward a'surplus with which to begin the next season. The courts had been in excellent condition. Considering the dry spell' they had stood up to the play very well and members had no cause for complaint. : The outstanding feature of the club’s activities was the social life of the club. The committee had done everything to see that everyone had as . much tennis as was possible. He hoped that by continued co-operation the club would have as good a season next year. He congratulated the winners on their success, particularly Mrs. F. V. Sole, who won the women’s championship for'the ninth time.

The prize winners were:— Championship: women’s singles, Mrs. F. V. Sole; men’s singles, R. Ninkie; women’s doubles, Mesdames F. V. Sole and R. Lovell; men’s doubles, R. Ninkie and P. Birmingham; combined doubles, R. Ninkie and Mrs. F. Lobb. Handicap events: women’s singles, Mrs. F. V. Sole; men’s singles, J. Knapman; women’s doubles, Mrs. Muirhean and Miss M. Hawke; combined doubles, H. Lobb and Mrs. Lobb; men’s doubles, F. V. Sole and R. Yates. Martin’s orchestra played the music.
