POSTAL OFFICER FAREWELLED. CONNECTED WITH SPORTS BODIES. The nopularity of Mr. Hilton Frewin was shown, on Friday evening when the residents of Whangamomqna and district gathered at a farewell social and dance in his honour. Mr. L. Dean, chairman of the Whangamomona Football Club, said Mr. Frewin had occupied the position of assistant at the post office' for. five years, and was shortly leaving for Kimbolton. During his. stay , at Whangamomona he had taken an active interest in all branches of sport in the town, and as secretary of the Whangamomona Football Club for two years he had proved a great asset. Residents felt they could not let him depart without showing in some tangible manner the esteem in which he was held. ‘ Mr. Geever referred to the excellent character of Mr. Frewin and stated that as a postal official he had been found most obliging. Mr. G, Murphy, Aotuhia, paid a tribute to the manner in which Mr. Frewin had always. considered the settlers in the back country, both officially and in private-life/ They would be sorry to see him go. •’.Mr. L. A. Robinson, postmaster, said he had been fortunate in having an officer- of Mr. Frewin’s calibre, as he always considered the other fellow's point of view, and that made for smooth working both in‘contact with the public and behind the scenes. Mr. Frewin had made headway during his five years sojourn at Whangamomona, meeting with success in two examinations. He had proved a valuable officer, fully alive to the department’s , requirements, while he had, conducted himself in a manner beyond reproach. Mr. Dean presented Mr. Frewin with a solid,leather suitcase and a cheque on behalf of the residents of Whangamomona and; district,

, Mr. Frewin said he was sorry to leave Whangamomona, where he had spent a very pleasant time. He thanked the residents for the handsome . gifts.

Mouton won the. hidden number | prize. j ;The suspension bridge leading to the tennis courts has been completely retimbered and hauled up to its original height, making the structure perfectly safe. The work was done by a small band of energetic members after receiving valuable advice and assistance from Mr. A. J. Howley, vice-president of the club. The dangerous access via the railroad bridge is now eliminated, and children can reach the courts without risk of accident.
