ELTHAM EMBARRASSED

PLETHORA OF MATERIAL

INCREASE IN STRENGTH

Eltham has been inundated by a flood of promising new material that is going to be a puzzle to the selectors, t From bottom position in the southern division in 1932 and 1933 Eltham rose last year to fifth place in the provincial competition, losing only four games, one more than it had won in the previous two seasons. That improvement seems likely to be fully maintained. . The additions to the Eltham ranks include F. Young (Stratford Old Boys), R. Hill (Waimate), J. Bithell (Tukapa), McClenaghan (Wanganui) .and Martin (Urenui), all of whom are first grade men.

Young and Hill wilt be a welcome addition to the three-quarter line, which has hitherto been somewhat weak. A good third man would be Whiting, or Williams, or Smith, all of whom were in the team last year. ■ Townsend and L. White are in line ’for the five-eighth positions and there is some talk of Worthington, a sure tackler, taking the half-back position for his final season. It is said that Red Bourke will be available to share the full-back position with Paterson, Eltham thus possessing two very sound men for selection for an important post. All the members of the old forward pack will be available, with the possible exception of H. Potts, who has intentions of retiring. The Eltham forwards have always played well and with a better set of backs behind them they should make the team prominent at the end of the season.
