HAWERA BACKS STRONG
TEAMS REVIVING FORTUNE With a little more consistency Hawera would have been one of the competition’s hardest teams to beat last year. Towards the end of the season the side was in great form. This season the prospects are encouraging, to say the least. Practically all last year’s backs will be in the field.
W. Dymond, at half, is uncertain of turning out. A former Napier player. Ward, and Guy, formerly of Okaiawa, are possibilities for Dymond’s position, and both were tried last Saturday, Guy giving the better display. J. Hunter, who earned more brickbats than praise while playing on the wing last season, has been tried at second five-eighths in a couple of games this season and he has played excellent football, displaying a cut-in like lightning. If he makes a show in that position he will be a decided asset. Nigel Hunter, the “rock” of the side last year, and Dowdle will be out again,, and Nowell will be available for fullback. Stratton last Saturday gave a good display at full-back* so the position is rather complicated. In the forwards Rumble, Palmerston North, is a’ likely looking newcomer and Darkie Robinson will lend his aid in hooking. Brown, Holloway and the others should form one of the best packs the club has had for some seasons, although fitness, of course, is a first requisite.
