CRICKET IN OHURA

MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION. RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS. A meeting of the Ohura Valley Cricket Association was held at Ohura on Monday evening, when the following delegates were present: Messrs. J. Jenner and J. Cox (Ohura), P. Goldfinch and R. Brett (Turoto), G. Rutherford and R. Julian (Matiere). In the absence of the president (Mr. Parker), Mr. J. Cox was chairman. It was decided that the two shields competed for during the season be presented to the winning team at the dance to be held by the Ohura Cricket Club at Ohura. e f . Owing to the commencement of football it was found impracticable to play the suggested game between the representative team and the rest as a finish to the cricket season. • Final results for the competitions were announced as follows: —

MATIERE CRICKET CLUB. SUCCESSFUL SEASON ENDS. A successful season has been enjoyed by the Matiere Cricket Club in both competition and friendly games played throughout the year. Both competitions staged by the Ohura - Valley Cricket Association were won by the'Matiere eleven without the loss of a game, while, for the season the record of the chili is 20 games played, 18 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. The'loss was the first game of the seaTwo batsmen scored over 300 runs-each, two scored over 200 and-nine scored between 100 and 200 in their aggregates. J Hearfield,' who played only five games, easily headed the averages with 47.5, his total including an innings of I'ol not.odt. Fine averages, were secured by -the bowlers G. P. Rutherford easily taking most wickets, with 75 as his total. Many of the Matiere members played-Saturday cricket for Ongarue as well,-and all have had a very full season. G. Rutherford, with 83-wickets in Saturday cricket and 11 in representative cricket, took' 170 wickets for the season, while J. Hearfield, although not taking nearly as many wickets, heads the bowling averages for the Saturday competitions in Taumarunui. » Averages in Matiere Club games for the season are: —
