OHANGAI HALL MEETING

INABILITY TO ELECT COMMITTEE. The annual meeting of the Ohangai hall was held on Monday night, Mr. G. Kerrisk presiding over a small attendance. The balance sheet showed a most satisfactory position, the hall being clear of debt except for 7s, while the secretaryreported that since closing the books a further £1 had been received. The year had started with an overdraft of £9 Is 7d and the profit on the year was £8 14s 7d, leaving 7s owing. Receipts totalled £27 Os 9d and expenditure £lB 6s 2d. Mr. John Kerrisk, chairman of trustees, said he had intended to present to the meeting a proposal to form a hall society to replace the present system of control by trustees. Owing to the small attendance he did not go into details but gave an outline of the main features of the proposal. After some discussion it was agreed that it would be inadvisable to take any action in such an important matter- until the views of a more representative meeting had been heard.

From the commencement of the meeting it was obvious that difficulty would be experienced in selecting a committee from those present. At the previous annual meeting because of a small attendance the committee had agreed to re-election as a body, but as the secretary, who had held that office for the past three years, and been a member of the committee for seven years, together with the chairman and several members of the committee,, declined. further; re-

election, that course could not be followed. After prolonged discussion, the following motion was passed:. That owing to lack of public support; and the inability to form a committee, the'; books be handed to the trustees to take what action they may consider necessary.
