GERMAN PROPAGANDA
BROADCASTS ON SHORT-WAVE.
LIKE THE DAVENTRY SERVICE.
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.
Rec. 6 p.m. London, April 9. Germany has made a remarkable move relating to her short-wave “Empire” broadcasts from Berlin, says the Daily Telegraph. She has sent advance programmes, a questionnaire concerning reception, and comments on the items to the British Dominions. The German service in many respects resembles the British Broadcasting Corporation programmes from Daventry. A separate headquarters at Berlin sends out short-wave broadcasts for 15 to 16 hours daily on various wave-lengths. For the first zone, embracing Bombay, Batavia, Sydney and Aucklapd, the English language is used. For the second zone, the Far East, Dutch is used. For the third zope, Africa, English is used. For the fourth zone, South America, Spanish and Portuguese is used, For the fifth zone, North America, English is used. Officially programmes are intended for the “30,000,000 Germans living abroad.” Semi-official documents admit, however, that the service is intended for propaganda.
